TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Executive Director of Walhi Jakarta Tubagus Soleh Ahmadi openly regrets the decision taken by Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan regarding the issuance of building permits (IMB) for the reclaimed islet known as D Island.
Soleh reminded that the governor officially sealed 932 buildings on the islet on June 2018 and is currently in vain as Anies issued the permit.
“This means that the prior sealing serves no purpose considering it’s ended with the issuance of a building permit,” said Soleh at the Walhi National Executive office headquarters in South Jakarta on Monday.

Soleh argues that the Jakarta Administration has forced the continuance of Jakarta Bay’s reclamation construction. He also argues that Anies Baswedan is no different from the previous Jakarta governor.
Furthermore, the Campaign Coordinator of Walhi National Executive Edo Rahman mentioned Anies’ initial political promise.
“The governor’s initial political promise was to halt the reclamation project. This building permit issuance should not have been introduced. It’s an illogical statement to differentiate between reclamation and an IMB,” said Edo.
The criticism from Walhi adds to previous criticisms from the Jakarta Regional Council aimed at the governor. Most question Anies Baswedan’s legal basis upon doing so and his initial gubernatorial election campaign promise.
